If you’re anything like me, you know you should drink more water…but sometimes plain water just gets boring.
That’s one of the reasons I started making infused water. Adding fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs gives water a light, refreshing flavor without adding sugar or artificial ingredients. It’s an easy way to make hydration feel a little more special.
One thing you’ll notice is that I don’t make my infused water in a big pitcher. Instead, I make individual mason jars.
Why?
Because I think they stay fresher, they’re easy to grab on busy mornings, and they’re perfect for taking to the garden, out on the boat, or running errands.
This page is going to become my collection of favorite infused water recipes. I’ll continue adding new combinations throughout the summer, so be sure to save it and check back often!
Why I Use Mason Jars Instead of a Pitcher
After trying both methods, I’ve found that individual mason jars simply work better for my family.
Instead of opening the refrigerator and pouring from the same pitcher all day, every serving is already prepared and ready to go. I can grab one on my way outside, toss one in a cooler, or take one with me in the car.
Another reason I love mason jars is freshness.
While you’ll see some people say infused water lasts two or three days, I think it tastes its very best within the first 24 hours. After that, the cucumbers begin to soften, the mint loses some of its bright flavor, and citrus can start to taste slightly bitter.
Making several mason jars at one time lets me enjoy each one at its freshest.
Tips for the Best Infused Water
A few simple tricks make a big difference.
💧 Fill Your Jar with Ice
I always fill my mason jar with ice before adding the water. Not only does it keep everything nice and cold, but it also helps keep the fruit, cucumbers, and herbs from floating to the very top, giving the water better contact with the ingredients as it infuses.
🍋 Use Fresh Ingredients
Fresh lemons, cucumbers, herbs, and berries always give the best flavor. Wash everything well before slicing.
🔪 Slice Ingredients Thin
Thin slices release flavor faster than thick chunks, so your water is ready to enjoy sooner.
🌿 Lightly Press the Mint
Give the mint leaves a gentle press between your fingers before adding them to the jar. This helps release their natural oils without overpowering the drink.
❄️ Refrigerate Before Drinking
For the best flavor, refrigerate your infused water for at least 2 to 4 hours before serving.
♻️ Refill It One Time
Don’t throw away the fruit after your first glass. Most combinations can be refilled with fresh water one more time for a lighter second infusion.

💛 Tracy’s Tip
I usually make four or five jars at a time and line them up in the refrigerator. They look pretty, they’re ready whenever I need one, and I’m much more likely to grab a jar of infused water instead of reaching for a sugary drink.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does infused water stay fresh?
For the best flavor, I recommend enjoying it within 24 hours. While it’s generally safe a bit longer if kept refrigerated, the fruit and herbs start to lose their freshness, and the flavor isn’t nearly as bright.
Can I refill the jar?
Yes! Most infused waters can be refilled once with fresh water for a lighter second batch.
Do I have to peel the cucumber?
No. I leave the peel on because it adds color and flavor. Just wash it well before slicing.
What’s the best mason jar to use?
A 32-ounce wide-mouth mason jar works perfectly. It gives you plenty of room for fruit, ice, and a straw.
